News 5 : New Measures for the Entry of Construction Workers

Every day 600 workers, 500 employees, 1700 cars enter the Resort through visitor lanes, as well as residents who enter through the express lanes with their Passport. Most workers must enter in a very short time frame from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m., so we must handle a significant flow of people where it is sometimes difficult to maintain a healthy distance.

Having dozens of workers grouped at the entrance, or 30 workers squeezed into a truck is not optimal to fight against Covid, but it is also something that happens daily in the subway and buses in hundreds of cities around the world. The first measure that we have taken is to require the use of the mandatory mask for all the people who approach the Resort and we are working to enforce it, which is not always easy because we do not have judicial power.

There are other measures we want to take but it is not so simple because on one hand, builders and workers have the right to work and want to enter their workplace as quickly as possible, on the other hand, we must keep our sight on any action that may give the other association, whose lawyer watches us permanently waiting for the slightest opportunity to attack us, a reason to generate a lawsuit.

Taking into account the above, we have chosen to :

1- Authorize the entry of the workers from 7:30 a.m. to increase the congested entry time period.

2- As of Monday, January 25, 2021, we will leave to each builder the possibility of deciding the means of transport for their workers, choosing between : entering on foot, by bicycle, or by truck (until now, all workers must enter by truck).

By diversifying entry modes and increasing hours, we can improve the healty distance and limit risks.

For builders who want to continue entering with their workers by truck, they must get into the trucks in the taxi parking at the entrance of the Resort. Right there, their temperature will be taken and disinfectant gel will be given to them. We ask the builders to force their workers to wear face masks throughout the journey and to limit the number of workers depending on the size of their truck as far as possible.

Workers who enter on foot or by bicycle must wear face masks throughout the journey, keep a healthy distance and walk one by one in the Resort.

We ask the collaboration of the other association to let the workers pass in the streets and insist on the use of the mask while they walk in the Resort. We understand that these measures may not be to the liking of all residents, but we need to be aware that when taking care of construction workers, we also take care of their families, many of whom work in our homes. We look forward to your cooperation. Covid is a serious issue and we are doing everything we can to minimize transmission risks in the Resort with the limited means that we have.

We know that most of the residents do not like construction because they cut down trees, make noise, have workers … but they must not forget that the house or apartment where they live happily now, has also been built in the same way, making the neighbors at that time uncomfortable with the construction.

Our Resort has had a substantial growth, each can decide if it is something positive or negative, but we must also remember that 20 years ago, our place of residence was colloquially known as “Muerto Aventuras” (Death Aventuras), and even Playa del Carmen was a small town, connected by a dangerous road with narrow lanes without separation, or lights, and only had one Chedraui, 3 movie theaters and Fifth Avenue only reached the Constituyente …

In the town of Puerto Aventuras there were only a few dirt streets, few shops and not even 1000 inhabitants. In the Resort, there were very few restaurants and buildings, there was no boulevard, no plano 4, no marinas on the left side … and there was only Telmex internet, when lines were available. The growth of the Resort has brought us modernity and comfort, but paying the price of enduring some inconvenience in the process.
